The Darkness
Came home from Sunday's quiz to a powercut. Went to bed by torchlight and used the mechanical alarm clock. I'm not stupid me, even after a few drinks. Anyway got to work fobless and clock-in cardless, which basically meant I had to get other people to let me into and around the building. I also discovered that I had left the mobile phone at home. A small inconvenience, I managed for years perfectly well without one. Come home time I am delayed a bit and phone thewife to let her know this and also for her to pick me up at the station. Question is which train will I catch. She is in a hurry because its her drama group tonight, I may if I am lucky catch the 5.30 train, if not the 5.45, but that one branches off at the station before Irvine, Kilwinning which is a branch line. Sorted, I'll get off at Kilwinning. I get a bus from work to town immediately and am at the station in plenty of time to get the 5.30. Sitting in the train reading the paper thirty minutes later, I realise we are speeding through Kilwinning station without stopping. Eek, it arrives 5 minutes later in Irvine at the same time as the train in the other direction is leaving. The next train in that direction is in half an hour. I don't have my mobile phone with me so I have no idea of thewife's number or even if she has her phone with her. I phone someone who phones thewife but gets a weird ringing tone at the other end and nothing happens. I take the number and get the same when I try. Then I try Lady El who phones thewife and gets her at Kilwinning and asks her to come for me. Its late, we have fish suppers in a rush and she heads off.
I wake up this morning and the electronic alarm clock is flashing away. There's been another power cut but I wasn't ready for the swines this time so I am late! Just enough time to blog, shower and run. Got my mobile though and my fob!
