So what is timesnewroman? It's not the font, rather my take on the age we live in. The USA is the new Rome and the times we live in are timesnewroman.

I don't know where to start. Yesterday was filled with sadness and love and the realisation of an enormous loss. It was also a celebration of the life of my friend, Manuel and what a fabulous and full life he led. The ceremony was guided by a Humanist and those present considered the person and his very unique contribution to all our lives. I spoke to many people afterwards and realised that the closeness of his friendship, his wisdom, humour and warmth permeated far beyond the circle of friends that we were part of, wider and deeper through every sphere, workplaces far apart, friends from the past and family. He shall be missed by many.

Later in the evening we had some whisky and reminiscence and among many tales was Manuel's love of "slice" a peculiar Scottish Sausage, rectangular and spicy. I said that it was one of the few things that I would be tempted to partake of since becoming a veggie over 15 years ago. Reidski, up from London, had previously fallen to the temptations of meat and urged me on. It was fitting, thewife could not believe it, she ran round to the local shop, bought some came home cooked it and placed it in my hand and I ate it and enjoyed it and the Lamb Curry we had later. There are so many things to try now.
